Enter 'C' When Ready (\)
This field has several different functions. For normal backup procedure, simply insert the indicated disk and enter C. The computer will ask for as many disks as are required to back up all the data.

The "Copying From" and "Copying To" fields are set by the computer, and indicate the direction of copy. The direction of copy can be changed in the "Enter C when ready" field. To recover a data backup, type RECOVER. This will change the direction of copy. Enter "C" for each disk, as with normal backup procedure.

To change the disk number, simply enter the number of the disk you are ready for. The computer will ask you to insert that disk. Proceed as normal by entering "C".

Enter a "U" to get the number of blocks used.

IMPORTANT: For a data backup to be valid, NO data may be changed until ALL disks have been backed up.

Before a disk is used the first time, it must be formatted. Often disks are bought pre-formatted, meaning they have been formatted already. There's nothing wrong with formatting a disk again if you're not sure that it has been formatted. For help on formatting a disk, from the (\) screen press<Shift F1>, select Questions, and then option F.

If you try to do a backup to a disk that is not formatted, the computer will give a message that it can't read drive A (or drive B).

Formatting a Floppy Disk (\)
Before a floppy disk is used for the first time it must be formatted. Some floppy disks are pre-formatted. They do not need to be formatted again.

To format a floppy disk in drive A, use the following procedure. (If your floppy drive is drive B, substitute a B for the A in these instructions.)

1. Exit to DOS by pressing within the ABC Accounting Program.

2. At the C prompt, which looks like this "C:\>", type FORMAT A: and press . If your disk is a Double-Density disk, type FORMAT A:/f:720 and press . (A Double-Density disk has a hole in the top-right corner only, a High-Density disk has a hole in the top-left and top-right corners.)

3. The computer displays a message telling you to insert the disk or diskette and press .

4. When the format is complete, the computer asks for a volume label. Press for none. Type Y or N depending if you want to format another disk.

Floppy disks are sometimes called diskettes or simply disks. The terms are interchangeable except that the term "disk" could refer to the hard disk which is where data is stored within the computer.
